Volunteering to make a difference and learn new skills
Learners in Hatfield have been given the opportunity to volunteer in an exciting new enterprise with Oxfam.
There are over 700 retail branches throughout the UK and this has now been expanded into an online presence. This has enabled a range of new volunteering roles working within the Online Hub warehouses. Roles include identifying items to sell online, photographing items and writing descriptions of the items.
The volunteer opportunities provide learners with the chance to try different roles and develop new skills.
The main advantages of volunteering for the learners include:
- Work experience
- Work based reference (after a qualifying period)
- Opportunity to meet new and diverse people
- Opportunity to learn a variety of new skills.
The learners visited the Online Hub in Welwyn Garden City to try some of the different roles and decide if there were any roles they were interested in volunteering for. The learners all enjoyed the tour and chose a variety of different roles that would be interested in doing.
