Rave nights at the YMCA in Northumberland
Connexions Northumberland PAs are working with the local police, CSO’s, volunteer workers from WCVS and the Fire Academy at Rave nights held at the YMCA.
The evenings bring together representatives from the different organisations to offer a range of information and advice on issues which affect young people. Connexions PAs offer IAG and signpost young people to the Connexions service for future appointments as well as providing C-Card and Chlamydia testing.
The monthly Rave nights are attended by around 120 young people and provide an excellent opportunity to work with them in an environment where they are comfortable and at ease.
A group of young people also work with Connexions to promote the events to others. Support is available for these young people from the “Personal Best” tutor from the college who is available to talk about NVQ courses in events if they are interested in further developing their skills.
Some funding has been secured to continue this work and other funding applications are being made to further develop this work.
