igen awarded the Leeds Wedge Based Intensive Connexions Service Contract

igen has been successful delivering Effective Transitions PAs in Leeds for 5 years, pioneering close working links with schools, colleges and key stakeholders.Igen has now been successful in the awarding of the new Leeds Wedge Based Intensive Connexions Service to igen. In a change to the current structure the Intensive Connexions Service in Leeds has been divided into area specific services (wedges), bringing together all Intensive Specialist PAs to ensure services for young people are seamless, coordinated and effective.

A key feature of igen’s proposal for wedge based Connexions Service is to ensure the excellence and experience already established within the wedges is not lost. Igen is working closing with partners in each of the wedges to ensure good practice is continued and enhanced.

Current Transition PAs provide intensive differentiated support and assistance to young people in school and college and teenage parents, who have barriers to making an effective transition to education, employment or training after Year 11.

They have a caseload of young people at risk of disengaging from learning and/or not making a successful transition to post-16 learning and undertake individual and group activity work both prior to and following transition.

They take the lead within schools and colleges in developing and implementing an assessment framework for the target group; young people’s consultation/involvement; Connexions networks; case conferencing and information sharing processes; Connexions Access Points and links with neighbouring community-based Connexions Access Points. They also contribute to caseload allocation within schools/colleges and the development of effective referral mechanisms within the institutions.
