Igen has helped thousands of people in Hull who are out of work, at the risk of redundancy or wanting a career change to gain the skills they need to find a job.
The friendly and professional team of qualified careers advisers offer free information, support and guidance to adults aged 18 and over across Hull and Goole and will once again be on hand at the Your Future exhibition.
“There are always people looking for jobs” says Michelle Peacock, igen’s Service Delivery Manager. “People come to us for a variety of reasons, some people have been out of work for years, while others are affected by redundancies or are in employment and want to move up the career ladder.
“For anyone who has been out of work or made redundant after working at the same company for a long time finding a new job can be a frightening prospect. Igen’s Nextstep advisers can help people to overcome their own obstacles and move forwards to employment by providing help with CV writing, completing applications and interview skills.”
Igen has a team of 10 advisers based Hull Central Library on Albion Street in the City Centre funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and the European Social Fund (ESF).
A key part of the independent and impartial support offered by igen’s Nextstep advisers are one-to-one discussions which provide tailored support for each person. This includes advice on:
- Returning to work or looking for a change of direction – we can offer you practical help to find employment, training or education
- Improving your job prospects by developing or improving your CV or Jobsearch skills
- Updating skills and qualifications by seeking courses/learning opportunities
“I would encourage anyone to come and talk to us” Says Michelle. “We offer a range of service for adults and we also work closely with a number of other organisations in the Hull area.”
“Our attitude is focused on the individual and offering a service that suits you and your needs.”
“Many adults looking for a new job or facing redundancy struggle to make daytime appointments so we are until 8pm Monday to Thursday so they can still take advantage of our services.
“We are also very happy for employers to contact us if they are experiencing difficulties so can support them and their employees.”
Igen’s Nextstep advisers based in the Central Library are available Monday to Thursday 9.30am-8pm and Friday 9.30am-5pm.
