Steve Higginbotham, igen Chief Executive has been appointed as the Vice President of the Institute of Careers Guidance (ICG).
The Institute of Career Guidance is the largest professional association for guidance practitioners in Europe. It is the oldest and largest association for career guidance practitioners, managers, researchers, trainers and students, and those interested in or working in career guidance.
Steve said: “There appears to be an emerging public consensus for the need to improve careers IAG for people of all ages and a recognition of a growing need for professional impartial advice.
“The ICG has possibly an unprecedented opportunity over the next 2-3 years to position itself as the leading authoritive voice of career guidance professionals, to influence future policy and practice and to be recognised as the leading career guidance professional body in the UK.Critical to this will be how the ICG is perceived by policy makers, stakeholders and sector professionals.”
Steve is looking forward to working with ICG Board and Council member colleagues, taking forward the Create campaign to promote the profession and its contribution to Government strategy.Steve is also keen to ensure that the organisations, structures and governance are fit for purpose and that its members are well positioned to influence policy and practice.He is keen to meet members in the regions across the UK to hear at first hand what members believe are the key issues that the ICG needs to address and to involve more members in contributing to the Institutes activities.In particular, he wishes to provide opportunities for members to work alongside Board and Council members with a view to establishing a succession planning programme.
