Learners Discuss Skills With MP

Fabian Hamilton MP discusses skills with young people

Learners in Leeds were given the opportunity to quiz local Leeds North East MP Fabian Hamilton during an award ceremony to recognise their achievements.

Learners have been working with Future Pathways to gain qualifications at Level One or Level Two in Literacy and Numeracy and had recently completed a Citizenship project on the Democratic Process which involved researching the role of MPs

Over the past three months the learners have gained new skills to equip them to move onto further education, apprenticeships and work.

Following a demonstration from the learners of the new IT skills they had learnt whilst on the Entry to Employment (e2e) course, Fabian Hamilton MP gave them a talk about his duties as an MP and how he uses the skills they have developed in his role.

Following his talk on National and International issues, Mr Hamilton is a member of the Foreign Affairs Select committee, learners were invited to ask questions and spent an enjoyable morning discovering about what MPs do and how the skills they are learning can open the door to many more opportunities.

e2e courses are run by igen, Coverdale House, East Parade.. Leeds . e2e Trainers work with young people to improve literacy and numeracy, enhance personal and social developmentand employability skills. The programme, funded by LSC West Yorkshire, is free for any young person who is 16-18 and has not yet achieved a level two qualification (5 GCSEs A* - C grade).
