Taking the nextstep to a new future

CLIFF Pitts wanted a new job but after spending 20 years doing the same role he felt unprepared to look for a new job.

He was referred to the nextstep service offered by Future Pathways on East Parade, Leeds to put together a CV and get support to look for a new job. During meetings with his adviser he discussed his skills, interests and future goals. Although he was apprehensive about what to expect he found the experience to be enjoyable saying:

“Belinda, my Adviser, made me feel very welcome and at ease. I wasn’t sure what to expect. She was very helpful and friendly and explained what was needed for the CV.”

“We talked about my job options and Belinda told me about training on offer for Fork Lift Truck and Security Licences.”

“I made enquiries with the job centre and enrolled on a course to do the Security Industry Association (SIA) licence and successfully completed the training in March 09, along with Level 1 & 2 in Adult Literacy, which I thoroughly enjoyed.”

Since his meetings with Future Pathways he has successful applied for a job as a Security Guard and is enjoying his new role.

Cliff said: “I would recommend anyone thinking about contacting nextstep at Future Pathways to go for it. My prospects have improved as I have a new qualification I can use in different settings and I now have a completely different job that I wouldn’t have thought of that I really enjoy.”
