Services we offer

igen has been delivering a career information advice and guidance service for adults for a number of years. Our aim is to “Help and support adults to make realistic decisions about their future in terms of learning and work”. We work with people aged 19 (18 if unemployed) and over who could be in employment, or may be unemployed or looking to return to the labour market after a break.

Next Step

Next Step is available to any adults aged 19 and above or 18 (if unemployed). Qualified careers advisers deliver information, advice and guidance if you are looking to improve career prospects, obtain a qualification or make the most of your job. A subsequent more in depth session is available if required for clients who have obtained below a level 3 qualification. The sessions include:

  • Understand the local job market
  • Find out about funding to support your learning
  • Develop your CV
  • Improve your interview and presentation skills
  • Progress in your current job
  • Register with Next Step

First Step Engagement

Intensive support to help people to progress into training and employment.

We match our service to your needs so you get the support that’s right for you. By giving information and guidance about the things that are important to you we can help towards a better future.

The programme aims to help to following:

  • Incapacity Benefit customers
  • Lone parents in receipt of JSA or Tax Credits
  • People with disabilities & health related problems
  • Other unemployed people with children (including those not on benefits)Unemployed people 50+
  • The most disadvantaged unemployed (minority ethnic people, those with an offending background, history of drug/alcohol misuse, homeless, refugees & others disadvantaged in the labour market)
  • Priority to customers living in the most deprived wards

We can work with you to develop an individual support package that will help you to:

  • Identify your goals
  • Write your CV and fill in application forms
  • Prepare for interviews
  • Access support from other organisations

Advisers will continue to work with you when you move on, to make sure everything’s going well.

Careergen

This careers advice and guidance service is available to adults and is part of a fee paying service. Experienced careers advisers help and support individuals to make realistic decision about their future. We access interest guides, skills checks and other tools with people using this service. For these people who want and need in depth support we have a psychometric testing service which looks at aptitudes, interest and personality. For more details visit careergen.
