The Connexions Service offers careers information, advice, guidance and transition support to young people aged 13-19 years in Leeds. Services for those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities are extended up to 25 years.
We work closely with a wide network of agencies who, like us, provide young people focused services – from schools and colleges, to housing and benefits. Working in partnership enables us all to plan and deliver a fully integrated service and helps influence further improvements.
An important aim of the Government currently is to improve the integration of services for children and young people. Connexions has broken the ground, but this drive has been gaining momentum through the Children Act and subsequent guidance, and we are now moving towards Children’s Trusts at Local Authority level overseen by Directors of Children’s Services.
As an independent provider of careers services, partnership working has always been important to igen and, with our wider remit under the Connexions umbrella, the range of agencies and organisations with which we work has grown.
We have Partnership Agreements with the Youth Service, Jobcentre Plus, Social Services and the Education Welfare Service. We also have Delivery Agreements with the secondary schools, special schools, Pupil Referral Units, colleges and training suppliers detailing how we will work together to support young people.
Managers contribute to joint decision making about services for young people through a range strategic partnership groups.
It is our view that by working better together we can make a more positive impact on young people’s lives and their life chances.
